The Bonneville Salt Flats are located on Interstate 80 near Wendover Utah. They were created when Lake Bonneville, which filled much of the Great Basin, dried up. The left over salt deposits have created a beautifully serene landscape. This natural wonder is also known for numerous land speed records. The Wendover Salt Flats Rest Area is located near mile marker 10 on both the East and West bound sides of I-80. Here you can park and take in the sights.
