Find a great mechanic.

Enough time is often NOT spent on this topic. You will need a good mechanic to work on your truck. Sometimes that mechanic will be you, but if you are not mechanically inclined, you will need to find a good mechanic that you trust.  Many large fleets have a database/network to help their owner/operators find repair shops throughout the country, but it’s always better to
know who is doing the work on your truck.  Think locally first, try to find a good local mechanic that can do the work when you are back in town.  Remember to keep records of all of the repairs for tax purposes, and for resale value of your equipment.  Well maintained equipment with good documentation will always bring good money on the used market.
