This was our first Iowa 80 Truckers Jamboree Truck Show at the World's Largest Truck Stop. There is a lot going on at this show including an Antique Truck Display, Fireworks, Pork Chop Cookout, Live Country Music, Trucker Olympics, Super Truck Beauty Contest, and Carnival Games.
The Iowa 80 Truckers Jamboree Truck Show brings in large crowds. This show does a great job of exposing the general public to great trucks and great people and introduces the public to probably one of the best truck stops on the planet. All of this creates good will between the trucking community and the general motoring public. Having large crowds like this does create problems for photographing and isolating trucks especially when the sun goes down and the lights show starts on the trucks. Add fireworks and now you have a large crowd enjoying the show but creating a nightmare for Trucking Photography.
It became painfully obvious that we had to incorporate the crowds into the trucks shots. We normally do crowd shots for ambiance but we try to isolate the trucks best we can particularly when the trucks light up but it wasn't going to happen at this show. Next year we will have to figure out a different method of shooting these great show trucks. So, enjoy the images, a lot of these images we would not normally incorporate into a truck shoot but it's the best we could do under the conditions.
We would like to thank the staff of Iowa 80 for being great hosts. They were very accommodating and you got to love that Mid-West friendliness. Everybody had a smile on their face and was very helpful.
Most of you have probably been to Iowa 80 Truck Stop but for those of you that haven't, here are some of the many features of Iowa 80: Eight restaurant choices, a convenience store, gift store, Super Truck Showroom, barber shop, chiropractor, dentist, movie theater, workout room, laundry facilities, gas islands, diesel fuel center, truck service center, Truckomat truck wash, Dogomat pet wash, CAT Scale, 24- private showers, trucking museum and more!
The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum has been recently expanded and had some additions to the collection. The most interesting addition is a 1944 White Coca-Cola delivery truck. It's a very cool restoration and pictures are inside the video.
