Truck Stop Mishap Caught on Video- A Joey Slaughter Blog

After a long day behind the wheel, a trucker looks forward to getting off the road for the night.  If he’s lucky, he’ll find a truck stop with ample parking and a decent place to eat.  One would think that a trucker is safe once they make it to a truck stop and park for the night. Two Weather Apps That You Need to Know About- A Joey Slaughter Blog

Truckers need quick access to accurate weather information every day.  Even though most of our work keeps us inside of our trucks, we work outside!  Office and factory workers probably don’t worry about the weather as much as we do because once they get to work, they are in a controlled climate.  We have much more to be concerned about as we navigate a good portion of the continent each week!  Weather information is constantly on our minds and I’m going to tell you about two weather apps that will bring the knowledge right to your smartphone.

Being stranded on the road due to a breakdown is no fun and can be very dangerous.  Very seldom do we breakdown in a familiar place where we know just who to call for help.  I’m not that old, but I did enter the trucking industry before the internet.  I remember driving coast to coast with no cell phone, no computer, no GPS and now as I look back, it seems pretty scary.  I also remember breaking down and having to walk a good distance to a business and asking to use their phone to call for help.  Now in the age of technology, our jobs have gotten easier.  I have a cell phone so I don’t have to walk to find a landline, but I don’t have a phone book for each locality that I drive through either. I found that I needed more “tools in my toolbox” as an owner-operator.
